Horrorscope

Do the stars control the destiny of people?
Why would a gigantic, non-living object, staying trillions of light years away from me, worry about my business prosperity? Does Venus has a database to keep track of personal love life of billions of people? Also it need to adjust the love level of all the billions of people(only people?) on a regular interval of time. While taking decisions, will the planets refer the same horoscope tables we use?

Anyway, it is pathetic to observe the belief people have in these predictive systems. Have heard about people waiting for the right time for their business and only to find that the competition had eaten their share of market.

There are two forgery happening in the matrimonial market. Could be the groom side or the bride side; after knowing the other's party's horoscope details, pass on the 'horoscope' that would match. Still worse, there are people carrying multiple copies and pass the suitable profile.
The second malpractice is to use the horoscope as an excuse to reject a profile. That is a good excuse anyone would accept and not questionable. The reason is that thou the horoscope may match, there could be some other astrologer having a different opinion.

If we brand the above as cheating, what do we say about girls agreeing to cut open the womb to pick the new born at the right time rather than wait for a natural birth?

Someone known to me was complaining about the horoscope match. She was mentioning that she did a blunder in life of marrying a person by believing the good matching as sufficient criteria.
Rarely people question about the divorce rate inspite of the best matched profiles. Apart from divorce rate, why isn't the horoscope helping to filter out drunkards, womenizer, loofers, criminals etc?

On the other hand, there are folks thou they like a boy or a girl, they put a halt on further proceeding due to the horoscope blocade.

Anyway, I am sure not to get back my horoscope, which is destroyed completely. I would not go for such stupidity for my kids.

This topic reminds me of the famous Indian proverb, "Fate can be overcome by intelligence".

Good one JB,

With the increase in technology, people use the latest technology to create and spread blind beliefs.

Lighting of 100s of lemon lights (With cultivated lemon and extracted oil), writing of "Sri Rama Jayam" 1000s of times (With invent of pen, paper and the concept of tables introduced :), sending postcards having Holy stuff that say you will be rewarded for further forwards and punished for negligence. From postcards to emails and SMS which do the same have successively used the latest technology to spread blind belief.

Horoscope and Vastu are top rulers. Few follow these because their parents ( or should I say appa and amma ) do. Few others follow because many others follow. Few others follow because they don't want to take risk ( just in case ). Few others just don't want to think and trouble their brain. Few are convinced that these have unknown scientific reasons which our ancestors did not consider worth documenting.

Good gossiping RS and JB ;)

ok.. Time for some serious comments....

Can you enlighten me on your knowledge on these subjects. Do you even know name of texts which talk about astrology or vastu.

There is a samskrita proverb which goes like "Peace talked by a mighty person carries value.. But if a weak person is talking of peace, it is just because he is weak".. Ask me if you did not understand relevance of this proverb even after fishing reading this post..

Dear RS, there are only one type of people.. (who talk about the subjects like Vastu/Astrology or characters of Rama & Krishna) called Ignorants.. One is ignorant of scientific proof of the subject he is believing and other who rubbish them with zero knoledge in that subject. It's just ignorance. Unfortunately, people think they are being "cool" by being ingnorant..

When you said "ancesters did not consider documenting", where did you look for the facts ?

It's true that all those subjects are in samskrit which hardly few thousand people can understand well. Authors would have come out with an english version if the language only existed..

But atleast please understand, these subjects are not written by some people for their livelyhood. It's only used by few people now for their livelihood now(again fault is due to ignorance). There were scholors working on these topics for years under "rajashraya" and there was a systematic learning process. The same subjects have lead to most part of Indian contribution in the areas of mathematics (airthmetics or geometry) and astronomy. You will know this if you read about the "varaha mihira" or "bhaskaracharya" and many more scholors.

Also, may be when those texts were written the scholors never thought, even in their dreams, that their descendents will be so much intellectually bankrupt (Thanks to Muller, Muller vadi's and communists).

Just a test.. Think of "Donald Knuth" and "Bhaskaracharya". What impression you get of theor characters and why ?

When you talk about the life of Rama or Krishna, you are deeply affected by the Ramanand sagar's version of ramayana or chopra's version of bharata.. The one concept here is "in east people lived for values.." (Mostly not the case now, in a money oriented society). Just want to quote an incident from film "Last samurai" for this.. A samurai kills himself after a war because he was defeated by his opponents.. thats the way of samurai. It looks funny for our hero "Tom Cruise" character who comes from west to help Japan king, to fight samurai's and who eventually becomes a samurai. So it just depends on which angle you want to look at a character..

Even after his all "leela's" krishna is still is the spiritual icon for any "pantha".. Why ?

Now dont tell me it's job of someone to enlighten you on these subjects. I'm sure this is the question you are having now.
